PEST PREVENTION TIPS IN LAS VEGAS

In an effort to avoid infestations the National Pest Management Association made a list of tasks for homeowners to follow to eliminate common household pests like ants, ticks and stinging insects from the home.

The following are check lists – one for outdoor and one for indoor – to help keep pests from becoming a nuisance.

Outdoor Tasks

• Inspect the outside of your home for entry points – like near utility pipes and cracks near the foundation. If you find a crack – seal it up with a silicone based caulk. Also use steel wool to fill larger holes.

• Trim landscaping.

• Clean out leaves and other debris from gutters to prevent standing water.

• Replace weather stripping or screen windows that might be cracked.

• Keep firewood at least 20 feet away from the house.

Indoor Tasks

• Dispose garbage regularly in a sealed trash bin.

• Keep kitchen clean – wash down countertops and sweep floor to avoid crumbs.

• Store food in sealed containers and keep fresh fruit in the refrigerator.

• Vacuum floors once a week.

• Routinely check under sinks for areas of moisture – fix all leaks.
