PEST CONCERNS – MOSQUITOS ARE AT THE TOP OF LIST
The National Pest Management Association released a report on a survey of Americans that stated that mosquitoes, stinging insects and ticks are the pests that concern people the most during the summer months.
Over 50 percent of those surveyed are worried about contracting a disease from these pests and rightfully so. Last year the West Nile virus season was one of the deadliest on record – 286 fatal cases reported.
Las Vegas has its share of mosquitoes that carry the West Nile virus. Areas in Henderson had early reports of West Nile carrying mosquitoes and with all the rain we have had in the past couple of weeks leaving standing water in Centennial Hills we will most likely see more. Standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Many people think that when summer winds down the threat from mosquitoes and stinging insects decreases – but the season for these pests does not end until late fall.
The following is a breakdown of the survey findings:
Women are slightly more concerned about pests than men and people with children at home are more concerned about pests than those that do not have children. The survey also reported that 54 percent of Americans are concerned about diseases that insects carry, 43 percent have concerns about the pain from a bite or sting.
The threat of pest infestation is a concern to 35 percent of those surveyed. GLOBAL PEST SERVICES in Las Vegas is a licensed company that is qualified to handle all your pest elimination needs.
